Walk Watch at the Met

I hope everyone is having a great summer despite the 38˚ heat the people of Manila are not in favor of. So far, beach plans have been going dunzo here at home but I don't want to take dibs yet on having the suckiest summer ever. Haha.

Moving fashion-forward, I bet most of you saw a lot of coverage on the Costume Institute Gala Benefit held on the 3rd of May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. As usual, a train of celebrities grazed the red carpet, most of whom embodied the night's theme--Amercan Woman: Fashioning a National Identity. But honestly, I think the gowns and dresses the celebrities donned last year were more striking.

My personal favorites from the bunch were Chloé Sevigny's baby doll dress--I love a textured, rich turquoise dress and baby pink lips, M.I.A.--despite the awkward pose she carried well Alexander Wang's intricate design, the sleekness of Dree Hemingway--those heels are futuristically TDF! Ofcourse, Sienna Miller never fails to be one of the top dressed; the cut and design were very flattering and lastly, Chanel Iman's ability to up-the-ante the jumpsuit with her youthful glow is a win! On a sidenote, I included Elizabeth Banks in the collage because her ostrich-feathered dress was reminiscent of what I wore to my junior prom.

It was quite sad though that this time around, the sought-after Olsen twins were no where in sight during the event. They better make up for their absence!

Ready for the Pressure, Drama and the Pleasure

Have you had your fix of reality series the past week already? Because I made sure to catch the season premier of both The City and The Hills. As for the latter, let's leave it at the usual girl drama and Heidi Montag's hideous plastic surgery. It's saddening that even her mother doesn't support it.

Life goes on and I'm here to ramble about my favorite bits on The City. There wasn't a lot of drama except for the hype around the fashion show of Whitney Eve's Spring Collection. But the preview of the next episode surely got me hooked again. New York work drama definitely awaits!

I've been very into the nautical look since summer started so I really liked this simple of look of Whitney donning a blue and white dress during the scene where she went to the tailor accompanied by Roxy Olin. The gradual poof and high bun was what my eyes constantly observed because I've been into pulling my hair back a lot, lately.

Olivia Palermo did a good job interviewing Anna Sui... But really? I think it's better that she keep to being a socialite and dressing impressively than working (uselessly) for Elle Magazine.

I hope this scene was authentic because I was very touched. Kelly Cutrone crying was what I least expected! She is so intelligent and I admire her words of wisdom. In this scene, she advised Whit, "You have to be prepared for people to hate you. Average people love to be average cos nobody bothers that."

Just like the Bergdorf Goodman associates, I fancied those lace leggings that were to die for! To think that those leggings were almost a failure because the cloth Whitney assigned to that piece didn't work at first and then, ta-da, a product out of a moment's spur! There was a lot going for silk fabric and that used for a jumpsuit was my favorite.

Colorburst

L-R: Topshop lace pocket cupro shorts, MAC Viva Glam in Gaga, Proenza Schouler tie dye dress, Falconier necklace, H&M Water Aid Collection bikini, Mymu canvas espadrilles, OPI nial laquer in Miami Beet, Forever 21 denim shorts, Proenza Schouler PS1 pochettes, Topshop clogs

Ever since I laid eyes on Proenza Schouler's most recent collection, I couldn't help but be attracted to rich colors again, thus the collage above. Being a person who would gravitate towards neutral color palettes most of the time (I'm loving camel, nude and light pinks right now), this was quite unexpected of me. I guess it is also the summer season that is lightening me up. But fyi, neon colors as favorites was the story of my life 3 years ago haha!

I'm proud to say that my style has matured through the years and I'm still learning up to now. If you've graduated from the learning process of fashion, then innovation may be the next step. It's about mixing and matching, making it look flawless yet effortless.

Putting a lot of color into your ensemble may not be what you'd go for but if you're up for some popsicle fun, pick up your favorite key piece in a bright color to animate your outfit!

I love a petite woman that can intimidate!

Here comes another rocking lady that has been added to my fashion inspirations, Miroslava DumaAs a previous editor to Harper's Bazaar Russia, she now contributes to several publications such as Glamour Russia, OK Magazine (Russia), Tatler Magazine. Although Miroslava comes from a wealthy Russian family, she is also a young humanitarian who regularly organizes charity events and contributes her time to charitable foundations. Citizen Couture

There is just something about the combination of her being Russian and spotless sense of style that intrigues me! And the fact that it does, makes me adore her more. I love how she can don ruffles, dresses and skirts one day, be very edgy the next and laid back and quirky, the other. Not to mention, her fine taste for accessories and shoes. I think I might have just met my style counterpart in her.

The new lookbook of Aranaz featuring their Tribal Luxe collection immediately caught my eye and thought it could level up with the international market. I'm so in love with the creativity and styling of this one!

Chalk May 2010

What better way to entertain yourself while tanning under the sun than with Chalk Magazine's May 2010 issue! Get a copy of the latest issue in your favorite bookstore to read about what's hot right now--from college, fashion, summer destinations to election guidelines!

Coachella-Ella-Ella

Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is an annual star-studded event held in the scorching heat of Indio, California set in the Colorado Desert. It is a festival attended by the famous and not-so to watch and listen to simultaneous genres playing music and parties being held all over the place. And what a great event it is to show off some skin thanks to the 38˚C heat!

This is year it was all about swaggering and parading the tummy and legs with floral and lace--toughened up with denim and boots. Here are my personal favorites wearing the festival's fashion common ground.

Open up the point of view that wants to hide away

lazy monday photo dump

Glee's Lea Michele wanted to mesmerize us with her sultriness and clearly, that's what she did to me. A+ for the winner hair and make-up!

Besides the nude lip, I want to channel a vicious red one some time.

This top is calling me. Love the simple shoulder embellishment--it can be used during the day and worked up with more oomph for night.

Take some time off the Speidy and lame girlfriend drama of The Hills and tune in to Whitney Port's reality series, The City down to its 2nd season around April 28! Besides their breathtaking wardrobe, you gotta be jealous with the perks of their professions in the fashion world.

Since it's hot-hot-heat right now, I haven't been picking up the usually-necessary-to-me black eyeliner from my make-up pouch. So please give me a reason to wear it on a night out. Girlfriends, do you hear me calling? Haha!

I want every piece of the collection in Mango stores right now!!! *Mom, want to FedEx me some goodies?*

Still on a search for the perfect (and affordable) denim shorts... Hopefully, summer isn't over yet once I've found it.

April Favorites

Hopefully, I would be bucked up at this time of every month so I'd be able to regularly share with you my favorites--in fashion, beauty, music, food, come what may!

For a second, I thought of just randomly posting my inspirations for this month but then on a second contemplation, it would be great jump-starting something new with my blog... Now on to the bits!

J. Crew's Summer Catalog for April is so dainty, I immediately run to it as pegs when there are no creative juices coming out of me to assemble an outfit. I just wish jackets and blazers were still wearable in this kind of heat. But no, Manila heat is just... What it is!

Blair Fowler or better known as juicystar07 in YouTube is a beauty vlogger that I've been fervently following ever since I discovered her. Sure, her talkativeness and perkiness is of a different level (by different, I mean high) but she is great with tutoring different make-up looks. She does not only offer tutorials but reviews and recommendations on various beauty products as well. Another good reason to follow her advice (as for me, that is) is because we have the same skin type. Do look up her make-up/room tour and you will die with her collection. D-I-E!!!

If I can't have the PS1, can I have this Proenza Schouler PS1 Mini Messenger Bag atleast...? It's either this or a backpack. Very MK-esque! Click here.

Recently found fashion blog: Fashion Distraction
A distraction in its own right--this is a blog I told myself I would frequently visit! I can definitely relate to her occasional flowy tops and pastel-colored palette outfits and edgy, leather and studs ensembles.

Took a trip down memory lane with this Chloé Fall 2009 collection. It was just so full of the power woman's essence. I'm so in love with the cuts of those pants and shorts! Nude, beige and every color of that family shade is not one to ignore this season.

It was probably too judgy of me that the Kardashians were kind of "trashy"--with their reality series and all... But ever since the Kim Kardashian-Reggie Bush break-up gossip started to bloom out of the gossip sites I follow, so did Kim K's style attract me! I must say, the break-up is doing her great with the radiance she's casting off right now.

If you haven't watched the extended trailer of SATC 2 featuring the cameo of Penelope Cruz and Miley, I suggest you open a new tab and go to YouTube right now!!! I thought it was another plain Jane movie of a girls' only adventure out of their comfort zone but it's so much more--which is getting me so excited. Their trip to Abu Dhabi is what I'm looking forward to... Made me miss the desert during winter season in UAE. (I grew up in Dubai, fyi)

If this is what spring cleaning does to Jennifer Aniston, then I must start off with mine! This Harper's Bazaar UK May issue featuring her is so ferosh! Love the editing as well.

Since La Salle has shorter vacations compared to other universities... Why is it that I seem to have no plans at all? No fulfillment of "make out the most of your time" kinda thing. Bleh! Hope all of you are doing something worthwhile this summer, though.

Ka-Ching!

If you would like to seek financial advice on saving and budgeting your money I'm definitely the wrong person to run to! Well, just saying haha. Being the spendthrift that I am, here are a few purchases/splurges that I have done.

The sudden control on money just comes when you know you're going to have to live with the little amount left for the rest of the month, agree? Hay, life. But really, I did try sticking to buying only what is on my must-by list. You gotta give me credits for that ha-ha!

Sorry for the first two fugly pictures--they were just taken off Photo Booth.

Got these Ray-Ban-esque shades off a sidewalk for 50 bucks this afternoon. You see, commuting has some perks.

This pair will be worn aplenty, I promise. Bought this from a recent trip to the department store with one of my bestfriends from CSA :)

And finally... After a year! I got my hair colored again thanks to Fix at Greenbelt 3. Goodbye, ombré-looking locks! Oh and when I looked at this picture a second time, I realized it was the same top I wore when I got my hair colored for the first time last year for Graduation Ball heehee.
